01

Choose the right cabin

Adler is the most secluded — private hot tub, no neighbours in sight, fully forested. Bracken is nearby Adler but has a slightly more open feel with more natural sound. The Farmhouse is the original 1960s property house — it's the most spacious, with a full kitchen, fireplace, and covered deck, and sleeps up to 4. The Studio Loft is an open creative space above the Farmhouse — architecturally interesting, best for 2.

02

Pack for the stay

Linens, towels, and kitchen basics are provided (coffee, tea, salt, cooking oil). Bring: all your own food and drinks (full grocery run recommended — there's no restaurant on site), personal toiletries, outdoor footwear for forest trails, and downloaded content if you need entertainment offline. In shoulder season (May, October, early November), pack a warm layer — forest mornings run noticeably cooler than the city.

03

Know what a day here looks like

There's no schedule. Check-in is 4 pm; checkout is 11 am. The 40 acres of forest, marked trails, ponds, and meadow clearing are yours during your stay. Fire pit access is by arrangement. There's no restaurant, no activities programme, no organised anything. That's the point. Most guests bring food, cook in the cabin, walk the forest, sit by the fire, and do very little else. That's what a Fernwood stay looks like.

04

Understand what's included

Included: linens, towels, kitchen basics, WiFi, parking. Not included: food, drinks, toiletries, entertainment beyond WiFi. No cable TV, no gym, no pool, no spa. If you want a special meal, Manna can be arranged by request — discuss this when you book. The expectation is that you self-cater, as you would at a well-equipped holiday rental.

05

Plan your length of stay

One or two nights is the most common. The maximum is 3 nights (4 in rare cases). This is an intentional limit — the spaces are designed for short restorative stays, not for month-long residencies. Most guests find 2 nights is the right amount: enough to actually settle in, not so long you run out of things to not do.
