You don't need a hundred guests, a DJ, or a seating chart to have the wedding of your dreams. Some of the most meaningful ceremonies we've hosted at Fernwood Hills have been two people, a clearing in the forest, and vows spoken under a canopy of century-old oaks.
If you're considering an elopement in Ontario, here's everything you need to know about doing it at Fernwood Hills.
Why Elope in the Forest?
Forest elopements strip away everything that isn't essential. No guest list politics. No months of vendor coordination. Just you, your partner, and a moment that's entirely yours. The forest provides the decor — dappled light, birdsong, the smell of pine and wildflowers. You don't need to hire a florist when you're standing in a meadow.
The Setting: 40 Acres of Carolinian Forest
Fernwood Hills sits on 40 acres of mature Carolinian forest in Komoka, Ontario — just 10 minutes west of London. The property has multiple natural ceremony spots: a sun-dappled clearing beneath towering oaks, a wildflower meadow, and the Timber Pavilion for weather-proof ceremonies.
The property is entirely private. There are no other events happening during your ceremony. The forest is yours.
What's Typically Included
- Exclusive use of the grounds — Choose your ceremony spot anywhere on the 40-acre property
- The Timber Pavilion — A covered, open-air structure for ceremonies rain or shine
- Getting-ready space — The Studio Loft with natural light, mirrors, and 1,120 sq ft of space
- Overnight stay — Spend your wedding night in The Adler Cabin or The Bracken Cabin
- Private fire pit — End your evening under the stars
How to Plan Your Elopement
Planning an elopement at Fernwood Hills is intentionally simple:
- Pick your date — Weekdays and off-season dates are often available on short notice
- Choose your officiant — We can recommend local officiants, or bring your own
- Invite your photographer — The forest photographs beautifully in every season
- Show up and say your vows — We handle the space. You handle the love.

Every Season Has Its Beauty
Spring brings wildflowers and soft green canopy. Summer is warm golden light filtering through mature oaks. Fall is a cathedral of amber, crimson, and gold. Winter is stark, quiet, and stunning — snow-dusted trails and bare branches against grey sky. There is no bad season to elope in the forest.
